Motherload places experienced, organized professionals as Fractional Household COOs for busy San Francisco families. It's the role you've always been great at — finally with the recognition, the structure, and the pay it deserves.
Flexible hours. Real families. Meaningful work. $28–45/hr.

What this is
A Fractional Household COO is exactly what it sounds like: the Chief Operating Officer of a family's home life. You're not a task-runner. You're the person who understands how a household works, spots what's falling through the cracks, and builds systems that make things run without anyone having to think about them.
Most COOs work with 2–3 families, splitting their time between remote work — scheduling, research, coordination, inbox management — and in-person visits for the things that need a human presence. You set your own hours. You own your relationships.
If you've spent years being the most organized person in every room you've been in, this was built for you.
What you earn
Per hour, depending on scope and experience. Paid weekly.
Households per COO. Enough to fill a schedule, not enough to burn out.
Remote for coordination and research. In-person for what needs a presence.
What you actually handle
A week in the life
You clear the inbox for the Noe Valley family — three contractor follow-up emails, a camp registration that kept slipping, and a dentist appointment for two kids on a day that actually works. Done before lunch.
Plumber is coming between 10 and noon. You're there. You manage the conversation, confirm the work is done right, and send a quick update. The household is in a board meeting and doesn't think about it once.
Both households get a short recap — what got done this week, what's coming next week, and one thing that needs a quick yes or no. They read it in two minutes. They feel completely in control.
Who this is for
You're the most organized person you know.
You've always been the one who remembers, follows up, and makes sure things actually get done. That's not a quirk. That's a skill.
You've worked inside homes, families, or executives' lives.
Former EA, estate manager, property manager, household manager, nanny, personal assistant — you know what it takes to manage a life that isn't your own, and you're good at it.
You want flexible, meaningful work.
Not a 9-to-5. Not a gig app. Work where you own your schedule, build real relationships, and feel the impact of what you do.
You're based in San Francisco.
The in-person component requires it. We're SF-only for now. If you know the neighborhoods, the vendors, the rhythm of this city — that's a real advantage.
You want to be trusted, not managed.
We don't want task-runners. We want people who can be handed a household and figure it out. If you need to be told what to do next, this isn't the right fit. If you're already two steps ahead — it is.
How it works
Tell us a bit about your background and what you'd do in your first week with a new household. That's it for now. No resume, no portfolio.
Alex reviews every application. If it's a fit, you'll get a real email — not a form letter — and schedule a conversation. We're looking for people, not credentials.
You'll meet the family before anything starts. We make sure the fit is right for both sides. You set the terms of how you work together — schedule, communication, tasks.
From Alex
I'm building Motherload because I believe there's a group of people who are extraordinarily good at something that has never been properly valued: running a household. Not just managing it — actually running it. Proactively. Systematically. With real skill.
If you're one of those people, I want to work with you. I'm going to personally introduce you to every family. I'm going to make sure they treat you like the professional you are. And I'm going to build a platform that makes your work easier, more visible, and more rewarding.
This is the start of something. I want the right people at the beginning.
